Earlier this year, NorCal based apparel company Marine Layer introduced an industry-first sustainability program called Re-Spun. Aimed at reducing textile waste in the US, the consumer-based up-cycle program will pay customers $5 per donated tee ($25 max) as credit towards purchases of Marine Layer goods.
Over the yeas we tried lots of things (including a hideious recycle t-shirt bag) but struggled to figure out how to make a substantial positive impact. Turns out, our fatal flaw was not coming up with a solution that involved our customers. That’s why we’re so excited about Re-Spun. It’s the only recylging program around that leverages the incredible power of our community.

Next time you’re rummaging through your closet, take note of all the shirts you never wear and consider trading them in instead of throwing them out or relegating them to car wash duties. You can participate in Re-Spun right now by either dropping off your old haggard T’s at any Marine Layer store or by shipping them via their pre-paid (and recyclable) mailer.
