If you’ve been looking for an excuse to add another G-Shock to your collection, look no further than the brand new G-SHOCK GA-B2100 ‘CasiOAK’. With the addition of Bluetooth Bluetooth connectivity to the G-SHOCK Connected smartphone app and Tough Solar charging, this upgrade is a no-brainer.
Falling under the new GA-B2100 reference banner signifies an upgrade over the original GA-2100 from 2019 which was itself an update to the original GA-1000. And while the brand’s current design language is still firmly rooted in that original concept, there are some subtle nuances here that make all the difference.
The case is still round and wears comfortably, even on relatively small wrists but it’s now slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It also comes in a variety of colors, including some new ones like “cyan” blue. The dial is still funky and fun to look at, with its bold numerals, triangular hour markers, and hands. Some of the small updates here and there make it more legible than ever before.
The addition of “Tough Solar” allows the watch to be run on power from light sources such as sunlight, or even any other white light source.
The Bluetooth technology enables the watches to sync up with a smartphone, making it easy to stay on time even when traveling. The built-in Smartphone Link function uses Bluetooth communications to connect to a smart device and correct the time automatically.
While still hard to find at the time of writing, the G-SHOCK GA-B2100 ‘CasiOAK’, is worth the hunt and would be a great addition to any collection or would make a perfect first G-SHOCK for the budding connoisseur. And because the starting price is just $150, it’s likely these will continue to fly off the shelves for some time. Our favorite flavor, “Yellow” will cost an additional $10 and will likely be the hottest affordable watch for summer.
